10 Tips for the Laundromat

Not having a washer or dryer in your home can be a big pain. It is annoying to have to sit and wait for your clothes to finish at a laundromat. You can go to a local store while you are waiting, but generally there are not the most fun spots surrounding a laundromat. Our location offers customers free wifi, tv’s and of course clean comfortable air conditioned seating so that you can relax during your visit.

So, if you are bored or exhausted, here are some ways to make your time at the laundromat more bearable:

TIP #1: PREPARATION IS KEY.
Make sure your clothes are already sorted before you go. This will lessen the time you have to spend in the laundromat!

TIP# 2: DON’T GET TANGLED + TWISTED.
twisted T-shirts and balled-up socks just slow everything down. and tangled clothes may not get as clean as they could. Enforce a family law that all those inverted items must be unsnarled before they’re lobbed into the laundry basket.

TIP #3: KEEP THOSE ZIPPERS ZIPPED.
it’s worth taking a moment to make sure all your zippers are closed before they go in the wash. You definitely don’t want those menacing metal teeth snagging delicates or knits that are sharing the same load.

TIP #4: DON’T BE BUTTONED UP.
keeping shirts buttoned when you wash them may seem like a smart idea. but it can stretch and stress buttonholes and buttons, which may lead to fraying and premature poppage. the fix: unbutton everything before washing.

TIP #5: DON’T RUB THE WRONG WAY.
you can pre-treat stubborn stains with a stain remover but take it easy. Frenzied rubbing can actually make the stain worse and wear away the fabric. just follow the pre-treat instructions on the label. and remember, the sooner you treat the stain, the more success you’ll have removing it.

TIP #6: SAVE A PLACE FOR SOLO SOCKS.
where, oh where do missing socks go? We don’t really know, but we do know that putting socks in the washing machine first means they’re less likely to attach themselves to other clothes and disappear. Have a small bag that you store all your solo socks in, who knows one day you may find it’s missing friend!

TIP #7: FOLD CLOTHES FAST TO DECREASE CREASES.
if you fold clothes right out of the dryer, when they’re still warm, it cuts down on wrinkles created by piles of crumpled clothes. No time to fold your whole load right away? just give each item a quick shake and lay it flat in the laundry basket, one on top of another. that should help keep creases at bay.

TIP #8. MIST-IFY YOUR CLOTHES FOR A CREASE FREE FINISH

Try this sneaky trick to remove creases from your clothes without stepping near the iron. Mix a teaspoon of cheap lavender oil in a litre of water and mist it over your clothes before wearing them. The creases will magically disappear before your very eyes.
TIP #9: DON’T OVERDO THE DETERGENT.
Most concentrated laundry detergent is exactly that—concentrated. so follow the dosage instructions on the label and don’t overdo it.  Concentrated laundry detergent was also designed to rinse out easily, so you use a lot less water.

TIP #10: HAVE YOUR QUARTERS READY.
Have rolls of quarters ready. You can always use the change machine in the laundromat, but if you have quarters with you then you can get in and out of there much faster!

Happy cleaning!
